Our Rescue's Focus
We continuously strive to provide gold standard veterinary care, husbandry and nursing to all of the animals in our rescue. Our program is tailored and operated by a RVT to ensure our standards meet that of OAVT and CVO to provide vaccination information, the latest deworming and flea/tick prevention regime, and preventative care for your new family member
Our Intakes and how it works
Upon arrival in our care, each pet has their Vet examination and diagnostic workup as indicated at our primary vet hospital Mississauga. All vaccinations are updated and Accuplex testing is done to ensure each pet is negative if over 6 months of age.
Each pet, upon physical examination may require different medical treatments, we do not overlook anything. You will be provided with their medical records upon adoption as well as a full discussion with our Registered Veterinary Techncian to go over any medical concerns, which will also be given to you in writing, if applicable.
What else is done before they are adopted?
All of our pets are groomed and fully dewormed before they go to their foster homes or become available for adoption. Each pet is also microchipped and registration is included, as well as a 6 week trial with Pet Secure, a pet insurance company. In addition, we always provide food for transition of the pet's current diet.
We have immediate access to Veterinary care and our director has been a registered technician for almost 10 years, which helps to provide additional support to all of our rescues, fosters, and families alike.
You will be given our RVTs personal cell number for any medical questions or concerns you may have with your new pet, even after adoption including triaging!
Adoption process
We have an online application that is accessable via Jotform.
Our process is in order of application recieved, suitability for that pet and availability to adopt. We go through each application and reach out via email with any questions or concerns we may have to discuss further.
Upon approval we ask that we are able to discuss your current pets records with your regular Veterinarian, this is our primary reference check.
If approved to proceed to the next step would be meeting in person +/- a phone discussion if you have immediate questions. We will discuss everything the day of adoption when you come to meet the pet.
There are times where upon approval of the above steps, you will be meeting with the foster of the pet to ask them any questions before taking them home. Any medical related questions will be addressed prior to you going to meet the pet and records can be sent to your regular vet, or will be provided.
We have removed the deposit fee for our application and will only review and reply to those who are suitable for the pet in interest. We encourage you to reach out via email with any questions prior to submitting your application to establish that connection and relationship with our founder!
** we will not schedule any meetings for the pet of interest without the application submission & approval prior **
Adopt a cat
We sometimes get cats and kittens from Northern and Indigenous communites transferred to our care from partnering rescues. These secluded regions do not have access to Veterinary Care. Occasionally we also get transfers from shelters in Ontario.
Without foster homes available or a facility to operate out of, we are very limited in the number of cats we are able to accomodate.
Adopt a dog
Our dogs all come from Indigenous communities in Northern Ontario and Manitoba who do not have access to Veterinary care. We also get transfers from various Shelters, owner surrenders, medical surrenders, and occasionally intake from culled puppymill groups; only if we can get all of their stock out. We also just recently paired with a sanctuary in Barbados to help some of their dogs find homes in Canada annually.
All of our dogs get age appropriate vaccines, prevention , 4dx testing if over 6 months of age, microchip with registration and pet insurance on adoption day for 6 weeks with Pet Secure
We specialize in taking in pregnant dogs or orphaned litters of puppies to prevent them and their babies from entering the shelter system, from families who are not able to care for them due to time, or afford their care, or transfers from the above. In this way with our space, we are able to save more dogs at the same time!
Without foster homes available or a facility to operate out of, we are very limited in the number of dogs we are able to accomodate at once. I do not have trained staff (other than myself) so we unfortunately cannot take behavioural cases in our set up or dogs that are not accepting of other dogs
